Facilities Update – March 20, 2023
Update on Holualoa Elementary
3/20/2023
Holualoa School Ohana,
Over spring break four classrooms have been painted and three swing space rooms have been assigned as we continue renovating and cleaning learning spaces on the aging campus. Painting was completed in two rooms and two others are nearing completion shortly. Last week, 9 classrooms/spaces were also cleaned. Assistant Superintendent Randy Tanaka did a site visit this past Friday.
Overall, there are 47 rooms and other spaces that will be painted with the mold-inhibiting paint. Rooms with high moisture levels have dehumidifiers that are run overnight to bring down moisture levels. Unless we encounter significant delays because of hazmat or contractor schedules, the Office of Facilities and Operations expects to have all the classrooms completed over the summer break in time for the new school year.
The Holualoa administration will continue to communicate directly with staff and families to keep them apprised of the ongoing efforts.

The Pfizer vaccine will be administered in 2 doses 21 days apart. You must come for both doses at the school location you request. If a parent cannot attend with their child, you must send the student with a signed consent form which will be sent to you once you sign up for an appointment.
Each vaccination site will have its own method for registration for first and second doses. However, all sites are tracking who will need an invite for the second dose based on first dose administration. As the date for each dose draws closer, you should receive an email invite for the dose with instructions. Please do not share your link with others as the seat offered is only for you and your family. Be sure to carefully double check your entries for accuracy to ensure your responses and contact information are captured correctly.
You should receive your second dose from the same location where you received your first dose. If you don’t get an email invite at least five days prior to the 21-day mark for the second dose, contact Kelly.Stern@k12.hi.us
Mahalo for your continued help in our fight against this pandemic.

Principal’s 2020-2021 May Announcements
Please see Principal Glenn Gray’s message to our families below around school reopening, computer and mifi return, Kindergarten enrollment, and fifth grade promotion.
If you have a kindergarten aged student, or know student families in the district, we recommend enrolling early, so that our school can be staffed appropriately for our students to have an optimal learning environment.
Thank You for your support!

Dear Holualoa School Students, Families, & Community,
I hope you and your families are well. Currently, the implementation of the AA/BB schedule continues to go well. Students and staff have continued to follow the prescribed mitigation procedures and it is awesome to have many more students back on campus while we continue to virtually work with those who are still in Distance Learning.
As we wrap up this school year, here are key reminders:
Plan for next year:
Our school is anticipating all students attending in person five days a week at the start of next school year unless a dramatic turn in the pandemic occurs. The plan is also to have a Distance Learning option available for grades 2-5, as needed.
5th Grade Promotion:
The morning of May 26 there will be a Drive-Thru promotion for our 5th grade students where we will pass out certificates and celebrate our amazing 5th graders. Details will be sent to families very soon.
Computer Devices:
All student devices must be turned in at the end of the year. Once our Tech Team services the devices, they will be available to check out over the summer. Drop off of the checked out devices will be June 1-4 from 8am – 12pm at the front of the school.
Summer program:
All students will have access to many of our online programs throughout the summer using the licenses they have been using throughout this school year.
Kinder Camp will be offered for incoming Kindergarten students for half day starting June 21-July 12. If you have questions please contact the school at 808-313-3800.
Report Cards:
Report cards will be sent home by teachers with students or can be picked up at the office over the summer.
Kindergarten:
Please share with friends and family that we are currently registering for next year all new students, especially Kinders.
Here is what you will need to know:
To be eligible for Kindergarten your child’s birthdate must be between 8/1/2014 & July 31, 2015. You will need address verification (current utility bill with service address and your name on it or a notarized letter from the landlord along with their utility bill) Original Birth Certificate, Immunization Record, Physical Exam and TB clearance.
The website for online kindergarten registration is: https://hawaii.infinitecampus.org/campus/OLRLoginKiosk/hawaii
Registration hours are between 8:30 am – 2:30 pm.
With gratitude & aloha.
Glenn Gray
Principal
